Mrs. Mina Loise Fascher, nee Schmidt, was born Sept. 26, 1869, in Luhmansdorf, Province of Pomeran, Germany. It was also there that she was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Christian faith.
At the age of 15 years, she left her native country and came to America. She arrived in Garnavillo at the home of her uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Mike Schmidt, Sept. 15, 1885. For the next five years she worked in this vicinity.
On Jan. 22, 1891, Miss Schmidt and Carl Fascher were married. Four children were born to them; namely, Otto, who died in infancy; William of St. Olaf; Amelia, Mrs. George Kluth, Elkader, and Irene, Mrs. Lee Ball, Luana. In addition to the one son already mentioned, Mrs. Fascher was preceded in death by her husband who died on March 11, 1934.
Throughout her life Mrs. Fascher lived on various farms in the vicinity of Garnavillo. For the last 16 years, since her husbands death, she has made her home with her son William on a farm near St. Olaf. From the time she came to this country until her death, Mrs. Fascher was a communicant member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran church of Garnavillo.
Mrs. Fascher died at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 07, 1950, at the age of 80 years, 11 months and 12 days.
Survivors are three children, eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and numerous other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon, Sept. 10, 1950, at 1:30 o'clock at the Garnavillo funeral home and at 2 o'clock at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran church at Garnavillo. Interment was at the Old Garnavillo cemetery. Pastor L. C. Urlaub of St. Paul's, officiated.
Pallbearers were: Marvin Ball, Norman Schultz, Keith Wilkins, Kenneth Muller, Harvey and Valmah Fascher.
