Sylvester Hines, former resident of Cox Creek township, Clayton county, died Aug. 08, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Howard Bacon, Cedar Rapids, after a long illness.
Born Jan. 29, 1878, in Clayton county, he was the son of Louie and Lavona Fox Hines. He was married in 1896 to Alvina Stone who preceded him in death. Mr. Hines has lived with his daughter in Cedar Rapids for the past three years.
Funeral services were Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Gill chapel and interment was in the Cox Creek cemetery.
Survivors include seven daughters, three sons and two brothers. The daughters are Mrs. Tommy (Emma) Cush, Manchester; Mrs. William (Maggie) Carnicle, Edgewood, Mrs. Howard (Lottie) Bacon, Mrs. Everett (Josephine) Bacon, and Mrs. Ruben (June) Nelson, all of Cedar Rapids; Mrs. Edward (Irene) Harms, Marion; Mrs. Tony McMonigle, Strawberry Point; the sons are Delbert and Roberto of Strawberry Point, and Willis of Spooner, Wis., the brothers are Lester, Manchester, and Orville, Strawberry Point. He was preceded in death by his wife, one son and one daughter.
