Edward Auer, a pioneer resident of Garnavillo, died suddenly at his home Wednesday, December 23, following a heart attack suffered Tuesday afternoon. He was born September 22, 1858, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Auer, on a farm in Garnavillo township. He married Elizabeth Fallon in 1884, and they made their home on a farm west of Garnavillo until they retired in 1914 and moved to Garnavillo. His wife died in 1926 and the following year he married Mrs. Lillian Gleason of Chicago, who survives with one stepson, Edward Gleason of Chicago. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were celebrated at St. Joseph's church Saturday morning, December 26, Rev. Henry Scharphoff reading the requiem mass.
Relatives from out of town who attended were Ed Krauel, Tom Donahue and Tom Garaghty of Elkader, Paul Tetrow of McGregor, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Petche and son Lavern, Mrs. Nellie Weber and Mrs. Lucy Wolter of Guttenberg and Mr. and Mrs. William Wittenbrere of Cresco.
