Mrs. John Stiehl died at her home early Thursday morning after several years illness. Funeral services were held from St. Paul's Lutheran church Sunday afternoon. Burial was in City cemetery.

Mrs. J.H.H. Stiehl died at her home early Thursday morning. She had been in ill health for 15 years. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran church with pastor D.A. Flesner officiating.

Mary Brandtman Stiehl was born in Elkport, Iowa, on March 15, 1862, the daughter of Henry Brandtman and Mary Thies Brandtman. She was married to John Stiehl on May 31, 1882. They made their home on a farm a few miles west of Garnavillo where they lived until 1914 when they retired and moved to Garnavillo.

Besides her husband, she is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Anna Schumacher, Mrs. Alma Stickford, Mrs. Selma Lau and Mrs. Edna Burd and one son Karl J., of St. Olaf; two brothers, Charles Brandtman of Dubuque and John Brandtman of Elkader, and two sisters, Mrs. Reka Dickman of this place and Mrs. Herman Mueller of Long Beach, Calif., and 15 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, William, her parents, two brothers and one sister and one granddaughter.

Mrs. Stiehl was a charter member of the Ladies Aid of St. Paul's church. Following the usual custom, members of the Aid sang the hymn, "Jesus Savior Pilot Me" at the funeral services. Burial was made in the Garnavillo cemetery.

Walthers, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Wolf and Mrs. Bertha Tangeman of Elkader; Mr. and Mrs. Myron Lindroth and Mr. and Mrs. Carl Mueller of St. Olaf; Mr. and Mrs. L.H. Schumacher, Guttenberg; Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Dickman, Mr. and Mrs. Lorenz Casten of Postville; Mr. and Mrs. William Landt and Mr. and Mrs. Arno Doering of Luana; Mr. and Mrs. Emil Auelrich, Mr. Wm. Schultz and Mr. and Mrs. Arno Dickman of Monona.

Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Abbott of Rock Island arrived here on last Thursday to spend Christmas with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. O.F. Schumacher and to attend the funeral of Mrs. Abbott's grandmother, Mrs. John Stiehl.

Mr. and Mrs. Charles Brandtman of Dubuque arrived here on Friday called by the death of their sister, Mrs. John Stiehl, which occurred early Thursday morning.
