Leon Arby Blake, a resident of Guttenberg for nearly five years, died at his home Dec. 24, 1949, at the age of 73 years, two months and one day.
Mr. Blake, the oldest child of Mr. and Mrs. M. L. Blake, was born on a farm near Volga and the most of his life had been lived in or near Volga.
In 1899 he was married to Jessie Tomkins and to them were born five children, three of whom survive him: Mrs. Ray Kellogg of Strawberry Point; M. L. Blake of Minneapolis, Minn.; and Lieut. D. L. Blake of London, England. two sons, Milburn I. and Merlyn Blake Phillips, preceded him in death.
His first wife died the first of February, 1919, and in June of 1930 he was married to Mrs. Ha___e Thoday of Volga.
Besides his wife and three children, also surviving Mr. Blake are one brother and two sisters: Verner F. Blake and Helen Phillips of Volga and Celia Middagh of Sewickley, Pa., and four grandchildren: Billy Ray and Janann Kellogg; Ronnie Blake; and Jimmie Phillips.
Services were held Thursday at the Volga Presbyterian church at 2:30 p.m. with the Rev. Robert Swanson of Guttenberg officiating. Casket bearers were: Roy Bennington, Fayette; William Christeleit, Clarence Zapf, Wayne White, Frank Phillips and Delos Crain. Burial was in Hill Crest cemetery, Volga.

Charles Wiedner, Rapid City, S.D.; Mrs. Mary Hennesey, Guttenberg; Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Schumacher, Dubuque; Mr. and Mrs. Harry Tomkins, Mrs. Elmer Tomkins, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Tomkins, Waterloo; Mr. and Mrs. James Shaw, Mrs. Ray Wolf, Mr. and Mrs. John Gull, Guttenberg; Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Borrett, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Brown, Pete R. Purman, Garber.
