Funeral services for George Henkes, 68, of Farmersburg, were held last Monday afternoon at one o'clock at the home and at 1:30 at the Methodist church in Monona with the Rev. Harley W. Farnham officiating. Burial was in the city cemetery.
Mr. Henkes died at his home Thursday evening, Dec. 17, after a lingering illness. He was born May 27, 1874, in Wagner township, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Justus Henkes. He grew to manhood in the Farmersburg community and was married to Effie Koth of Wagner, Dec. 30, 1896. The couple began farming in Wagner township and then lived in Farmersburg for eight years. In 1910 they moved to the farm where Mr. Henkes' death occurred.
He was preceded in death by five sisters, Mrs. William Moon, Mrs. Herman Harnack, Mrs. James Spencer, Mrs. Henry Harnack, and Miss Mary Henkes, and one step-brother, Fred Drahn. Besides his wife he is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Ella Meyer, Mrs. Clara Walter and Mrs. Ed. Fuelling; two brothers, Arthur Henkes and Saward Henkes and two step-sisters, Mrs. Lizzie Harnack and Mrs. William Gossman.
Pallbearers were Harvey Klasen, Emil Zurcher, Bert Ferguson, Gordon Reinke, Alfred Thiese, Helmuth Oelke, Herb Deal and Merlin Flesner.
Five nieces acted as flower girls.
