Margaret Ann Schroeder was born Dec. 27, 1855, in the town of Minungen, Germany, not far from the place where Martin Luther made his translation of the Bible. She died Dec. 18, 1942 at the age of nearly 87 years.

Her father died when she was nearly five and she came with her mother and elder sister to America. For some time they lived in Chicago when the city was a comparitively small town. Later they moved to W____ng, Ill. At the close of the Civil War her mother married J___ West, a soldier, and with them Margaret came to Iowa and settled on a farm three miles north of Strawberry Point. They were among the early settlers of the region and lived the rugged life of pioneers.

On May 06, 1874, she was married to William Susie. To this union were born six children, William, Jr., who died in 1919, Anna Katherine who died in infancy, Mrs. Eda Clarke, Miss Jennie and Mrs. Marian Phelps, all of Volga, and Fred of Kenyon, Minn. The family established its residence in Volga about 1880 and she spent the rest of her life in this community. Her husband died in 1917.

Besides her children, two great-grandchildren and a host of friends to mourn her death.

Funeral services were held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at the Methodist church with the pastor, the Rev. D. V. Butler, in charge. Burial was in Hill Crest cemetery.

Her casket bearers were: Harry Rinkert, William Hoskyn, Roy Candee, Ira Moore, John Follon and E. C. Becker.
