Funeral services were held here last Thursday afternoon at the Witt funeral chapel and the Frieden's Evangelical church for Miss Emma Meyer, who died at her home here in Elkader, Tuesday, Oct. 27, at the age of 71 years, seven months and five days.

Miss Meyer had been in failing health for three months with a heart ailment.

The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Meyer, she was born March 22, 1871, at Osborne, Iowa. She received her education in the public schools and then became a seamstress. Though the major part of her life was spent here in Clayton county, she spent several years in Chicago and Nebraska, continuing her profession.

The Meyer family operated the store at Communia for 17 years and then in 1917, Miss Meyer together with her mother and sister Mary moved to Elkader to make their home. Here she affiliated with the Frieden's Evangelical church, of which she was a faithful member. She also held membership for many years in both the Royal Neighbors and the Easten Star.

Her father preceded her in death in 1896; her mother in 1923. She is survived by three brothers and three sisters, as follows: Charles F. Meyer of Cherokee, Iowa; Frank E. Meyer of Grand Rapids, Mich.; Judge Joseph E. Meyer of Des Moines; Mrs. W. J. Burgholzer of Chicago; Mrs. A. A. Dohrer and Miss Mary Meyer, both of Elkader.

Casketbearers were six nephews, five of them brothers, as follows: Arthur, Joseph, Herman, Carl and Allen Meyer and Amiel Hoth. Burial was made in the East Side cemetery, the Rev. P. Kitterer officiating at the services.

Relatives from a distance who attended the services were: Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Burgholzer of Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. Charles F. Meyer of Cherokee; Mr. and Mrs. Frank E. Meyer of Grand Rapids, Mich.; Judge and Mrs. Joseph E. Meyer of Des Moines; Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Meyer and Mr. and Mrs. Herman Meyer of Britt; Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Meyer of Kanawa; Mrs. George Lau and Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Kuehl of Strawberry Point and Mabel Holzer of Elgin.
