Funeral services were held at St. Joseph's church Saturday morning for James Tobias Hyde, 80, who died at his home here last Thursday. His death resulted from a stroke.
Mr. Hyde was born Sept. 20, 1862 in Elkader, a son of Patrick and Katherine Hyde. In 1891 he was married to Bessie Johnson, who died in 1903. He lived in Newton, Kan., for a few years and also in Cedar Rapids. He was a blacksmith by trade.
Surviving are two sons, Elmer Hyde of Mt. Vernon, Ia., and Roy Hyde of Elkader; two grandchildren; four brothers, John of Pocahontas; Tom, P. J. and Leo, all of Elkader and one sister, Mrs. E. W. Charleton of Elkader.
Rev. Msgr. James P. Taken officiated at the requiem mass. The following acted as pallbearers: James Kelleher, Leo Kelleher, Adolph Benson, Harold Jewell, William Muench and Wm. Walch.
Relatives from a distance who attended the funeral were John Hyde and son Raymond of Pocahontas and Elmer Hyde of Mt. Vernon.
