GARBER: Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon for Mrs. Melia Friedericke Simons at the St. John's church with the Rev. Gaterman officiating. Burial was in the Brown cemetery. Pallbearers were six nephews of the deceased.

Mrs. Simons, daughter of August and Mary Voss Kottke was born March 03, 1879, in Jefferson township, Clayton county and died on August 23 at the age of 63 years and 5 months. She was baptized in early infancy and confirmed on March 26, 1893 in St. John's Lutheran church at Guttenberg by Rev. Zanzig and has now been a member of St. John's church at Garber.

In June 1900 she was united in marriage to Fred Simons of Garber. This union was blessed with five children. Her entire life was spent on the farm and she was always found working in the interest of her family and home and lending a helping hand to her neighbors.

She was preceded in death by her husband, 2 children, 1 grandchild, 5 sisters, 4 brothers and one half-brother. Her sudden death is being mourned by two daughters, Mrs. Eva Hansel, Mrs. Bernice Dohrer, one son Elmer, six grandchildren, her aged mother-in-law, Mrs. Mary Simons, all of Garber, three sisters, Mrs. Gusta White of Edgewood, Mrs. Ella Barnhart of Guttenberg and Mrs. Emma Patrick of Elkader, one half-sister Mrs. Louisa Groth of Guttenberg and a host of other relatives and friends.
