Clayton County Register, 02 Sept. 1942.
Mrs. Fred Rodas, a former resident of Elkader, died at her home in Mason City last Saturday after a lingering illness.
Sylvia Minnie Rodas was the daughter of Christ J. and Lena D. Meyer and she was born Jan. 05, 1903 on a farm near Elkader. Here she attended school, was confirmed in the Frieden's Evangelical church with the class of 1920. While a resident of Elkader she was a member of this church and its Frauen Verein.
She was married June 24, 1925 to Fred Rodas in the home of her parents. The first 13 years of their married life was spent in this community. In 1938 they moved to Mason City where they have resided since.
Mrs. Rodas had been in poor health for many years. Her last illness dated from May 23. August 02, she was taken to a hospital in Rochester, Minn. She remained there for one week, but nothing could be done for here there that could not be done for her at home, so she was returned to her home, where she died while sleeping.
She leaves to mourn: her husband, parents, one sister, Mrs. Macie Runa of Postville and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held from the home in Mason City Tuesday morning and in Frieden's Evangelical and Reformed church here in the afternoon at 3:30. Burial was in the East Side cemetery with the Rev. P. Kitterer officiating.
