Harlan W. Lenth died at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Herman F. Lenth, here in Elkader, last Sunday afternoon at two o'clock from an enlarged heart after an illness of three years.
Harlan William Lenth was born November 26, 1911, in Farmersburg township and at the time of his death had reached the age of 30 years and five months.
He graduated from the Elkader high school with the class of 1931 and won his B.A. degree at Iowa State Teachers college in 1935, majoring in mathematics. He followed the teaching profession until illness overtook him - five years in rural schools, one year in Thornton and two years in Denver, teaching in the junior and senior high schools in the latter two places. It was in Denver that his illness first overtook him.
July 30th, 1938, he was united in marriage here in Elkader with Miss Marjorie Downie. She together with his parents survive him as do also two sisters - Ora Lenth at home, Mrs. Ray Boots of Elkader, and one brother - Arno of St. Olaf. Two nieces and three nephews also survive.
Funeral services were held this afternoon at 1:30 in the home and 2:00 in the Frieden's Evangelical and Reformed church. Burial was made in the East Side cemetery, the Rev. P. Kitterer officiating.
Casketbearers were Robert Stebor, Alvin Link, Lorado Lenth, Leo Walthers, Clyde Smith and Milton Leonard.
