Clayton County Register, 22 Apr. 1942.

Berniece Reinecke, second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Reinecke, died late last Saturday afternoon at the children's hospital in Iowa City of a brain tumor.

Berniece Jayne was born here in Elkader, September 24th, 1922, and at the time of her death had reached the age of 19 years, six months and 24 days.

She attended the local public school and graduated from the high school with the class of 1940. The next year she attended the Elkader Junior college but because of ill health did not enroll again last fall.

Less than a year ago she complained of headaches at infrequent intervals. When local efforts failed to find the cause of the trouble she was taken through a clinic. Even those efforts failed.

In another effort to locate the trouble she was taken to the children's hospital in Iowa City last Saturday afternoon but she died a few minutes after her arrival. It was not until that time that it was definitely established that tumor of the brain had caused death.

Berniece is survived by her father and mother and two sisters, Maxine and Judith. Several uncles and aunts and cousins also survive and her death is mourned by a host of friends.

Funeral services were held at the home at one o'clock this afternoon and at the Evangelical and Reformed church at 1:30 with the Rev. P. Kitterer officiating, assisted by the Rev. Wm. T. Hexom, an uncle. Burial was made in the Norwegian cemetery at Decorah in the family lot where the body was committed to the grave by the Rev. Mr. Hexom.

Casket bearers were LaVern Huckstadt, Gerald Fassbinder, Robert Hoover, Robert May, Hermy Shultz and Robert Allen.

Honorary casket bearers and flower girls were Myrna Mae Kuehl, Milred Downey, Muriel Webster, Betty Lou Witte, Erneva Seifert and Jean Allen.
