STRAWBERRY POINT: Death came to Mrs. Sophia Neuenkirch, 95, Monday morning, March 30th, at the home of her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Addie Sauerbry. The funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon in the Imanuel Lutheran church with the Rev. Lawrence A. Stumme officiating. Burial was in the St. Sebald cemetery.
She was born at Hanover, Germany, February 18, 1847, and, when five years of age she came with her parents to the United States, settling in Kankakee, Ill. When 17 years of age she came to Iowa, working in Waukon and McGregor. Soon, she was married to Casper Sauerbry, who passed away at Strawberry Point in 1873. To this union three children were born, all of whom preceded her in death. In 1876, she was married to Adam Neuenkirch, who passed away in 1935. Until the past few months, when she was confined to her bed, Mrs. Neuenkirch was unusually active for her age. Her hobby was piecing of quilts and she could read and thread her needle without glasses. Her memory was always keen and she enjoyed telling of the old times.
Surviving are the following children: Mrs. Albert Dundan and Bennie Neuenkirch of Strawberry Point; Frank Neuenkirch of Oelwein; and Clarence Neuenkirch of St. Louis, Mo. There are also nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
