Mrs. Edward Meder died at her home here last Thursday evening at seven o'clock after an illness of two weeks.
As Mary Grouney, she was born February 01, 1858, in Philadelphia, Pa., the daughter of James and Ellen Grouney. At the time of her death she had reached the age of 84 years, two months and four days.
In the year 1886 she was united in marriage with Edward Meder and most of their life was spent on a farm near Clayton until recent years when they resided in Elkader.
Four daughters and three sons were born to this union. They, together with the husband, survive, as follows: Mrs. Richard Meehan, Harpers Ferry; Mrs. James Meehan, Elkader; Mrs. Mike Downey, Elkader; Mrs. Anna Mueller, Garnavillo; Clem and Fred Meder, Garnavillo and Dr. W. J. Meder, Harlan. One sister, Miss Marcella Grouney of Clayton also survives as do 12 grandchildren.
Mrs. Meder was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic church here and also of the Christian Mothers and Daughters and of the Service Star Legion.
Funeral services were held in St. Joseph's church here Monday morning, April 06th, the Rt. Rev. Msgr. J. P. Taken officiating. Burial was made in St. Joseph's cemetery.
Casketbearers were Francis Meehan, Donald Meehan, John Meehan, Leo Meehan, Lloyd Meehan and Walter Wright.
