Mrs. Fred Winch, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Christian Esboldt, was born August 28, 1877, in Riga, Latvia, Russia. In 1887 her parents emigrated to America and located at Jordan, Minn. Before 1892 the family had moved to Garnavillo, Iowa. She continued to live there until she was married to Fred Winch on April 20, 1897.

This union was blessed with three children. Edna, the present Mrs. Fred Rodas living on a farm near the home place; Roma, married to Henry Herzog, who is in business in Charles City; and Mildred, the wife of E. F. Winkler, living at Guttenberg.

Soon after her marriage she and her husband located on a farm near Elkport. From there they moved to Ottawa, Ill. In 1908 they returned to live on the John Lucy farm three miles from Littleport. After a year the family moved once more to the present location one mile from Littleport.

Mrs. Winch's parents and four sisters preceded her in death. Her mother, Eva, nee Freimann, died in 1922; her father in 1923. Three of her sisters died before the family came to America and were buried in Riga, Russia. One sister, Alvina, died three and one-half years ago. Her other sister, Mrs. Harry Hawley is living at Milan, Ill., and mourns the loss of her sister.

Others mourning the death of Mrs. Winch are: her husband, her daughters, Mrs. Fred Rodas, Mrs. Henry Herzog, Mrs. E. F. Winkler and their husbands and four grandchildren.

Mrs. Winch died Sunday afternoon, March 01, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Winkler in Guttenberg.
