Ewing, Emma Betsy (Jellings) 1866 - 1942

VOLGA: Mrs. Emma Betsy Ewing was born on Dec. 30, 1866. She was the daughter of Benjamin and Elizabeth Jellings.

Her entire life was spent in the Volga and community. On Oct. 18, 1893, she was united in marriage to William Ewing. To this marriage three sons were born: Clarence of DeKalb, Ill.; Henry of No. Buena Vista and Claude, who preceded her death. Mr. Ewing died a year ago.

Mrs. Ewing died very suddenly on the morning of Feb. 28, 1942. She leaves to mourn her death her two sons, seven grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Geo. Oldfather of Arlington, and four brothers Will of Volga, James of Strawberry Point, George of Oelwein, and Dave of Fayette; also several nieces and nephews. One brother and sister preceded her in death.

The memory of Mrs. Ewing will ever live in the hearts of her sons, relatives and many others of this community as a loving mother and faithful friend.

Funeral services were held on Monday, Mar. 02, in the Volga Presbyterian church in charge of the Rev. Russell Nelson. Mrs. Nelson sang two solos, "In The Garden" and "Will There Be Any Stars in My Crown," accompanied by Mrs. Clarence Kohls. Burial was made in the Hillcrest cemetery.

Casketbearers were: Frank Phillips, Howard Taylor, Louis Preuss, Edwin Berse, Howard Borden, Delos Crain.

Among those from out of town who attended the funeral were: Clarence Ewing and family, DeKalb, Ill.; Henry Ewing and family, No. Buena Vista; Mr. and Mrs. George Jellings and son, Oelwein; Lee Jellings, Randalia; Mrs. Ed. Gernand, Mr. and Mrs. Dave Jellings and sons, Wadena.
