Clayton County Register, 25 Feb. 1942.

This community was shocked last week Tuesday evening to learn that Mrs. J. P. Donlon had died suddenly of a heart attack as she was attending Coterie, of which she was a member. Mrs. Donlon had been in her usual good health and there had been no evidence of an illness.

Mrs. Donlon had left her home to attend the club meeting at the Lorne Boylan apartment and it was shortly after her arrival there that the attack overtook her.

Amie E. Meyer was born March 03, 1879, at Beulah, the daughter of Henry and Lucy (Appelman) Meyer. At the age of three she came to Elkader with her parents, and this has been her home even since. She graduated from the Elkader high school with the class of 1896.

In Minneapolis on July 02, 1900, she was united in marriage with Dr. J. P. Donlon of this place. To this union three children were born - one daughter and two sons.

Mrs. Donlon was unusually active in women's club work. For many years she had been a member of Coterie, of which she was president twice; she helped organize and was first president of the county federation of women's clubs and at the time of her death was chairman of the conservation committee of the Iowa Federation of Women's clubs. She was a charter member and past Regent of the local chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. For the past several years she has been president of the local library board to which work she gave her time unstintingly and where she will be missed a great deal.

Mrs. Donlon is survived by her husband and three children: Mrs. Amy Jo McDonnell of Northampton, Mass., Lucian and John B., both of Elkader. Besides these there is one sister, Mrs. Lucy Meyer Singleton of Houston, Texas, one brother, Dr. H. D. Meyer of Evanston, Ill., and her step-mother, Mrs. William Becker of Elkader.

Funeral services were held last Friday morning in St. Joseph's church and burial was made in St. Joseph's cemetery, the Rt. Rev. Msgr. J. P. Taken officiating. Casketbearers were: W. W. Davidson, Andrew Cassidy, Wm. H. Walch, Charles and Oscar Benson and O. H. Larson.

Among the relatives and close friends from a distance who attended the services were: Mrs. Singleton and her daughter, Jean Stringer Hardin, Jr., the latter of Austin, Texas; Dr. H. D. Meyer; Mrs. S. E. Donlon and daughter Margaret of Chicago; Mrs. Luke Faber of Dubuque; Mr. and Mrs. George Zubliar of Benton, Wis.; Mrs. Mame Donlon and son Joe of Decorah, and Dr. Anthony Lake of Marion.
