Michael W. Hoover, 78, died at his home here in Elkader last Thursday. He had been in failing health for about a year.
Michael William Hoover was born in the year 1864, the son of Julius and Margaret Hoover, here in Clayton county and the greater part of his life was spent in this county.
For many years he resided on a farm two miles north of Elkader, retiring in the spring of 1936 when he and Mrs. Hoover moved to Elkader.
July 18, 1893 he was united in marriage with Mary Donlon here in Elkader. Four sons were born to this union, two of whom died in infancy. The two surviving sons are Joseph P. and Arthur E. both of Elkader. Two grandsons survive as do two brothers and a sister. The latter are Joe Hoover, Frank Hoover and Mrs. Jos. Rector, all of San Angelo, Texas.
Funeral services were held last Saturday morning at St. Joseph's Catholic church here and burial was made in St. Joseph's cemetery, the Rt. Rev. Msgr. J. P. Taken officiating.
Casket bearers were: Nic Miller, Dominic Miller, A. J. Cassidy, Henry Leonard, M. J. Geraghty and Pat Downey.
Relatives from a distance who attended the services included: Mrs. S. E. Donlon and daughter, Margaret of Chicago, Mrs. Luke Faber of Dubuque and Mrs. Mame Donlon and son Joe of Decorah.
