STRAWBERRY POINT: The remains of Herman H. Opperman, a former resident of this place, were brought here Tuesday for burial. Services were at the Beatty chapel in Cedar Rapids and brief services were conducted at the grave here by the Rev. F. C. Witzigman of Oelwein, a close friend of the family. The deceased was born at Fergus Falls, Minn., on Oct. 03, 1862, and died in the Cedar Rapids hospital Monday after a lingering illness. On June 11, 1888, he was united in marriage to Miss Mary King of this place. To this union three children were born.
The home was made at Lancaster, Wis., for a year. They lived in and around Strawberry Point until 1919 when they located in Cedar Rapids. Their son James died Dec. 09, 1918 and five years later, Jan 17, 1923, Mrs. Opperman passed away. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Bernice Treadwell and Mrs. Anita Chamberlain, both of Tipton; also one sister and one brother, Mrs. Hannah Allenstein and Henry Opperman, both of Strawberry Point.
