Martin Oldfather, son of Adam and Regina Lenhart Oldfather, was born on a farm near Arlington, in Fayette county, Iowa, on December 02, 1862, and died Thursday morning, August 23, 1945, at his home following a long illness, at the age of 82 years, 8 months and 21 days.

He was married to Maryette Dill of Volga on December 06, 1888. They had two daughters, Alice Mabel, now Mrs. Earl Cousins, and Lucy Mae, now Mrs. Louis McClay, both residents of Waterloo.

He was a retired farmer and followed the stone mason trade for many years, being a skilled workman.

He was baptized on February 18, 1945. The Rev. R. P. Nelson, pastor of the Presbyterian church performed the sacred rite.

Survivors are his wife, companion of over 56 years; two daughters, three grandchildren; Dola Voshell, Jackson, Miss., Alo Reichart, Waterloo, and Irwin Johnson, Cedar Rapids; five great-grandchildren; one grandson was the victim of a car accident several years ago.

He was the oldest of 13 children, of whom two sisters preceded him in death, also four brothers, Fred, Charles, Walter and August. The living brothers are Louis H., Strawberry Point, Joe, George, Frank and Richard, Arlington, and Henry Oldfather, Oelwein.

Funeral services were held Saturday at two o'clock at the Methodist church with the pastor, the Rev. J. Clifton Lee in charge. Music was furnished by Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Kohls and Albert Kunzman.

Casket bearers were six nephews: Glen Oldfather, Glen Moats, Vane Oldfather, Arlington; Erwin Oldfather, Strawberry Point; Arthur and Raymond Jellings, Fayette.

Burial was in Hill Crest cemetery, Volga.
