Funeral services for Hugo W. Gusta, 65, who died early Monday morning, Aug. 20, following two years of failing health, were held from the Oelke funeral home at 1:30 Wednesday afternoon and from Friedens Evangelical and Reformed church at 2 p.m. The Rev. Paul Kitterer officiated. Burial was made in the East Side cemetery.
Hugo William Gusta was born on a farm near Elkader on May 21, 1880, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gustaf Gusta. In November, he moved with his parents to Nebraska where he lived until 1902 when they returned to Elkader.
Mr. Gusta spent five years in the Dakotas, one winter in Texas and one in Colorado. The remainder of his life was spent in and around Elkader.
He was married to Anna Jungblut. One daughter was born to this union.
Mr. Gusta was a mechanic by trade. For a number of years he served on the Elkader Fire department.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Helen McLacklin of Tucson, Ariz.; two brothers, Otto Gusta of Elkader, and Ernest Gusta of Arlington, Iowa; three sisters, Mrs. Lena Meyer and Miss Amelia Gusta, both of Elkader, and Mrs. Emma Homan of Waukon; also 16 nieces and nephews, 25 great-nieces and nephews and two great-great-nephews.
Pallbearers were: Wm. Wistrick, Mike Bente, Eldo Meyer, Henry Possrhl, Fred Cook, Wm. Muench.
