Funeral services for Carl Nightingale, 44, farmer living in Garnavillo township on the Clayton rural route, were held Thursday, June 28 at 12:45 o'clock at the home near Clayton, and at two o'clock at the Frieden's Evangelical and Reformed church in Elkader. The Rev. Paul Kitterer officiated. Burial was in the Mederville cemetery. Mr. Nightingale died at Finley hospital in Dubuque Monday morning June 25, following several months of failing health due to a heart ailment.
Carl Nightingale was born November 11, 1900, near Mederville, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ferdinand Nightingale. He received his education in the rural school of Clayton county and on February 17, 1923, he was married to Stella Casey at Elkader. Mr. Nightingale spent his entire life farming, moving onto their present farm in Garnavillo township in 1938.
Surviving are his widow and two daughters (Kathleen) Mrs. Howard Moyle, whose husband is in the South Pacific and Wilma Jean, both at home; two sisters, Mrs. Ed Hakert of Strawberry Point; Mrs. Henry Reick of Littleport; and three brothers, Herman Nightingale of Littleport and William and Henry both of Mederville. His parents and one sister, Mrs. John Clinton preceded him in death.
Pallbearers were: Harley Alt, Roy Jost, Elmer Tackman, Harlan Tackman, Clarence Staade and Emil Tackman.
