Oren William Walters was born in Fayette county, Iowa, near Wadena, January 10, 1876, and died at his home May 20, 1945, at the age of 69 years, 4 months and 10 days. He was the second eldest child of a family of six of George and Florence Hageman Walters, both pioneer settlers of Fayette county.
Mr. Walters was educated in the public school, also attended the Volga high school. He was united in marriage with Gertrude Cummings of Volga on December 25, 1902. To this union two sons were born. His wife preceded him in death August 09, 1923.
Those left to mourn his death are Kent Walters, who made his home with his father and Eld_ Walters also of Volga, besides two grandchildren, two brothers, Elmer of Beaconsville, Iowa, Ea__ of Arlington; three sisters, Mrs. Alma Follon, Mrs. Elsie Beavers and Mrs. Orpha Perkins, all of Arlington, and many other relatives and friends.
After his marriage, he purchased a farm two and one-half miles west of Volga where they made their home until 1938, when they purchased a home in town.
Mr. Walters and his wife united with the Methodist Episcopal church of Volga and always lent a helping hand to those in need.
In December 1943 he was stricken with failing health and has been a constant and patient sufferer since.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Methodist church with the Rev. Carl J. Kuipers of Fayette in charge.
Casket bearers were: R. C. Bennington, Joe Oldfather, J. H. Whitford, Walter Roys, Edward Everitt and E. C. Becker.
Burial was in the Hill Crest cemetery, Volga.
