Mary Estella Hurley, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Hurley, was born on a farm in Highland township July 18, 1884. She attended the rural schools in that township.
On Nov. 08, 1921, she was married to Michael Conley of Elkport, and for a number of years they lived on a farm in the Elkport community. Later, they moved to a farm north of Volga on Highway 56. A year ago, they moved to Volga where Mrs. Conley has been in failing health. She died Thursday, April 26, 1945, at her home after a long illness.
Surviving besides her husband in Volga, are four brothers, Michael Hurley, Elkader; John, McGregor; Jerry, Bankston; Tim, Volga; one half-sister, Mrs. Margaret Ann Smith, Torrance, Calif., also a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and five sisters.
Funeral services were held Monday from the home to Sacred Heart church, where the pastor, Rev. D. T. Noonan, celebrated the requiem high mass at 10 a.m.
Casket bearers were: Frank Shea, Fred Orr, Joseph Little, William Orr, Andrew Shea and Walter Butikofer.
Burial was in St. Michael's cemetery at Garber. The Rev. F. Phelan of Dubuque read the prayers at the graveside.
