Julia Ann, youngest daughter of the late Robert and Emma Charter Leete, was born Aug. 25, 1864, on their farm northeast of Volga City, where she grew to womanhood.

On Feb. 21, 1886, she was married to Joseph J. Chapman, a near neighbor. They settled on a farm in the same vicinity. To this marriage two children were born: Mrs. Fred (Eva M.) Rinkert of Volga City and Glenn R. who died Nov. 06, 1906, at the age of 15 years. They made their home on the afore-mentioned farm until March 1912. They then moved to Volga City and have resided in the same residence since that time.

Her primary interest was her home and family, but was always ready and willing to help others. She was an active member of the Methodist Ladies Aid and Hill Crest cemetery association as long as her health would permit.

After a lingering illness, she died at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday, April 24, 1945, at the age of 80 years, 7 months and 29 days.

Survivors are her husband, (Joseph J.) and daughter (Eva M.) both of Volga City; one grandson, M/Sgt. Ralph E. Rinkert, serving in the army of the United States, one brother, William C. Leete of Volga City, and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one son, her parents, two sisters and five brothers.

Funeral services were held Thursday, April 26, at 2 p.m. at the Methodist church with the Rev. Carl . Kuiper of Fayette officiating. Mrs. Leta Meyers Clark, pianist, accompanied C. W. Kohls, soloist, who sang, "The Old Rugged Cross."

Casket-bearers were: E. C. Becker, E. S. Clark, W. M. Hoskyn, F. I. Phillips, H. J. Rinkert and E. T. Smith.

Burial was in Hill Crest cemetery, Volga.

Out of town relatives and friends who attended the last rites were: M/Sgt. and Mrs. Ralph E. Rinkert, Des Moines; Mr. and Mrs. T. L. Alderson, Bruce and Vergene; Mrs. Edna Seago, Mrs. Pete Wilhem, Robert Anderson, all of Strawberry Point; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Susie, Kenyon, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Mel Griffith, Decorah; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Chapman, Mrs. Susan Sohner, Mrs. Sarah Sohner, Mrs. Clara Bennington, Mr. and Mrs. George Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Sohner and Larry Sohner, all of Waterloo; Mr. and Mrs. Homer Chapman and Carol Lee, Fayette: Mr. and Mrs. James Muncie, Elgin; Mr. and Mrs. George Humbert, Arlington; Mr. and Mrs. Ray Leete, Mrs. Kent Walters, Mrs. Jennie Bachtell, Mrs. Carrie Gottschalk, Elkader.
