Funeral services for Martin Hirsch, 58, who died suddenly at his home in McGregor Saturday morning, March 10, were held at the Congregational church in McGregor on Monday afternoon. The Rev. Paxton Smith officiated. Burial was in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.

Martin Hirsch, the son of John and Mary Leibrand Hirsch was born in Clayton County near McGregor on Feb. 06, 1886. He was united in marriage to Miss Blanche Christ, at McGregor on November 04, 1913. The couple went to housekeeping on the old Hirsch homestead near McGregor where they lived for a number of years. They were also residents of Clayton and Plymouth, until 1925, when they moved to Elkader. Mr. and Mrs. Hirsch conducted a grocery store here for four years, following which they moved to Postville where Mr. Hirsch was in the farm implement business. Fourteen years ago they returned to McGregor, where he was a produce buyer.

Surviving are his widow, one son Cpl. Donald Hirsch, somewhere in Italy, one daughter, Mrs. Adele Ohmer of Detroit, Mich., four grandchildren also of Detroit, two sisters Mrs. Nettie Allen of Elkader, and Mrs. Mary Wetter of Orchard, Ia., and one brother, William Hirsch of Dubuque.
