Funeral services for James Tobias Kelleher, 80, who died at his home here on Sunday morning, Feb. 18, following a stroke suffered a week ago, were held from the Oelke Funeral home to St. Joseph's church, Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock. The Rt. Rev. Msgr. James P. Taken officiated. Burial was in St. Joseph's cemetery.
James Tobias Kelleher was born on a farm near Elkader on April 20, 1864, the son of Thomas and Mary Kelleher.
He received his education in Boardman township school district number 05. He was married to Miss Julia Upton of Elkader in St. Joseph's church in Elkader on Sept. 19, 1893. They lived in Volga City 10 years and 23 years in Clermont. In 1932 they returned to Elkader which has since been their home.
Mr. Kelleher was a plumber and sheet metal worker and was active in his work until last winter when he suffered an attack of flu. Although not in the best of health, he was able to be about until he suffered a stroke a week ago.
Mr. Kelleher was a member of St. Joseph's church.
Surviving besides his widow are four sons, Kenneth of Cedar Rapids; Leroy of Great Falls, Mont.; Arthur of Woodcliff Lake, N.J.; and Harold of Cedar Falls; two daughters, Eva, Mrs. Ab Cheeseman of Earlimart, Calif., and Marie, Mrs. Fred Mylan of Gays Mills, Wis.; one sister, Miss Anna Kelleher of Elkader, and one brother, Ed Kelleher, of Marcus; also three half-sisters, Mrs. John Zoch, Mrs. Stella Beard and Miss Cleo Kelleher, all of Los Angeles, Calif., and twelve grandchildren. Two daughters, Vera and Blanche, preceded him in death.
Casket bearers were Gerald Feeney, Leo Roach, Harry Kelleher, Wm. Cheeseman, Otto Gusta and Chris Meyer.
