Clayton County Register, 19 Oct. 1944.
MCGREGOR: Cpl. Tom Huebsch died in France Sept. 13 from wounds received two days previously, according to a message from the War Department to his mother, Mrs. Kate Huebsch, which arrived here Friday morning. She had been notified Sept. 25, that Tom had been wounded Sept. 11, and was given his hospital address. Cpl. Huebsch was a stretcher-bearer with the army medical corps and had been in France since soon after the invasion in June.
After serving a year at Camp White, Oregon, and several months at Camp Grant, Ill., Tom was sent overseas in April, 1944. He had enlisted in the army for limited service two years ago following completion of his junior year at the University of Iowa. The War Department stated that a letter would follow. Mrs. Huebsch had had a letter from Tom written Sept. 07 telling her that he had just been re-assigned to a new unit.
Surviving besides his mother are two sisters, Dorothy, of McGregor, and Mrs. Raymond Kintigh of Cherokee, and his brother, Fred Huebsch, editor of the North Iowa Times.
