Born in Monona Nov. 2, 1849, this place has been his home for over sixty years. He was without advantages in acquiring an education; his life was one of toll- October 18, 1872, he was united in marriage to Miss. Lena Askew; four children were born to this union.

The aged wife and three children mourn the death of a devoted husband and father. Mrs. W. G. Benninger, and Irene Klauer both of Oelweln, la, and Hugh Scott of Davenport, Ia. One died, in early infancy. A brother, Winfleld, resides in Minnesota.

‘'Tame” , as he was more familiarly called was one of Monona’s best known characters; everybody knew Tame and everybody had a kindly salutation for the pioneer. His rough exterior had only an outward appearance of combativeness which was more than offset by a kindliness of heart, a fellow feeling for doing for others wherever opportunity offered. What ever his omissions. We can well afford to pass them by and remember that he was kind hearted and a friend indeed. For years be was affected from heart trouble, and was unable to do heavy manual labor; lights Jobs were his fort, and many are the men and women in this town who can recall some kindly act on his part towards a neighbor or friend without pay or price. Coming up town from his home Monday afternoon he suddenly fell to the walk dead, heart failure the immediate cause.

The funeral was held yesterday afternoon at the home on main street, Rev. J. B. Bird officiating. Burial in the Monona cemetery. There were numerous flowers laid upon the casket the gift of friends in acknowledgement of his good works.
