GARNAVILLO: Funeral services for Elmer J. Henning, 41, prominent farmer of this vicinity, were held at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran church here Tuesday afternoon. Mr. Henning died suddenly of a heart ailment at his home north of Garnavillo, Friday evening.
Mr. Henning was born Nov. 17, 1902, in Garnavillo township, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Henning. He was baptized Dec. 14, 1902, and confirmed April 21, 1916, in St. Paul's church. Nov. 21, 1928, he married Iona Taake, who survives as well as one son, Norbert, and one daughter, Doris Mae, and a sister, Mrs. Wm. Madden. Preceding him in death were his parents and one daughter, Adeline, who died shortly after her birth.
Mr. Henning was a member of the church council for the past four years and for his service the council has given a memorial wreath of $10.00 to the Nachusa orphanage in memory of their departed co-worker. The church school staff also gave a $5.00 memorial wreath to the same institution.
Rev. V. Hackbarth officiated at the service in the home, church and cemetery. Honorary pall-bearers were Arno Duede, Alvin Bierbaum, Fred Vogt, John Meyer and Herman Lundt; active pall-bearers, Arno Koss, Oliver Mueller, Harold Dawe, Loraine Meier, Elmer Dickman and Arnold Roggman, all members of the church council.
