VOLGA: The War Department notified Mrs. Merlyn B. Phillips by telegram Saturday, of the death of her husband, First Lieut. Merlyn B. Phillips, 25, which occurred Aug. 10, in France. He was a battalion air observer in the U.S. Army.
His wife and year-old son Jimmie of Volga survive him; also his mother, Mrs. Helen Phillips of Gridley, Kansas; his grandmother, Mrs. C. C. Blake of Volga; one sister, Mrs. Ray Kellogg, Strawberry Point; two brothers, Loylo Blake of Minneapolis and Dean with the U.S. Navy.
Lieutenant Phillips was awarded the Air Medal a short time ago and is wife received it in the mail Monday.
