Funeral services for Mrs. Lena Roeder who died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Carl Staak, Monday evening, August 14, after an illness of 11 months, were held from the house at 1:30 Thursday afternoon and from Frieden's Evangelical Reformed church at 2 o'clock, the Rev. Paul Kitterer officiating. Burial was made in the East Side cemetery.

Mrs. Roeder was born on a farm in Cox Creek township, near Littleport, Iowa, October 22, 1863, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Warnicke. She spent her entire life in Clayton county.

Feb. 11, 1888, she was married to George J. Roeder of Elkport, Iowa. This place was their home for 25 years. Since 1914 the family lived in and near Elkader.

Four sons and two daughters were born to this union. The husband, one son, Allen, also one brother, Frank, preceded her in death.

The five surviving children are Mrs. Elsie Martin, Mrs. Carl Staak, Harry, Carl and Frank, all of near Elkader. She leaves to mourn besides the aforenamed children and brother, one sister, Mrs. A. H. Krieg, of Communia, and two brothers, John and Henry Warnicke of Elkader, and 12 grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Pallbearers were: Christ Meyer, Henry Brust, Gus Mentzel, Charles Rodas, Wm. Muench, and Henry Wolf.

Relatives from a distance attending the funeral were: Sgt. Elaine Martin from Parris Island, S.C. and C. Ph. M. Russell Martin who recently returned from Iceland, his wife and son from Lake Forest, Ill., Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Mueller of Guttenberg and Miss Sarah Reardon of Strawberry Point.
