GARBER: Funeral services for John Chistian Kruse, 72, who died suddenly last Wednesday afternoon, July 12, were held Saturday, July 15, at Immanuel Lutheran church at Elkport. Although Mr. Kruse had been suffering from a liver ailment and dropsy for some time, his death was unexpected.
Mr. Kruse was born Oct. 22, 1871, in Garnavillo township. He was baptized in Clayton Center and confirmed in the Immanuel Lutheran church at Elkport. He was married Dec. 07, 1898, to Lena Kriese, who preceded him in death Oct. 13, 1941. Since he was 11 years old, Mr. Kruse has lived on the same farm and all of his eight children were born there.
Surviving are three sons, Arnold of Elkader, Martin of Garber and William on the home place; five daughters, Mrs. Hilda Doeppke of Elkader, Mrs. Marie Stoeffler of Garnavillo, Mrs. Regina Noggle of Delaware, Mrs. Alela Coonfare of Edgewood, and Mrs. Edna Schultz of Garber; and 14 grandchildren.
Rev. E. H. Mueller had charge of the services and a male quartet composed of Lowell Thein, Harlan Zittergruen, Laverne and Marvin Kuehl furnished the music, accompanied by Mrs. Mueller. Pallbearers were Wm. McLane, Ed Fehlhafter, Roy Berns, Frank Scheffert, Otto Berns and Emil Zittergruen.
