Katherine Edna Westfall, 71, died at her home here Easter Sunday, after a period of eight years of failing health. She has been cared for by her sister Nell.
Miss Westfall was born Dec. 06, 1872, in Putnam township, the daughter of Elijah and Jennie Wesstfall. For 30 years she was instructor in the local high school, and for many years of that time she was high school principal. Later she was a member of the school board.
She was a member of Chapter ER, P.E.O., of the Congregational church and of the Thimble society. As long as her health permitted, Miss Westfall was a member of the Fortnightly club.
One sister, Nell of Strawberry Point, survives.
Funeral services were held at the Congregational church here Wednesday afternoon, conducted by the pastor, Rev. O'Neill. Music was furnished by Mrs. Carrie Slagle and Mrs. Jennie Howard, accompanied by Mrs. John Knight. Honorary pallbearers were Harold Huebsch, Joe Gratke, Forrest Hamlet, Walter Kingsland, Earl Knight, Bruno Kamoss and Jesse Sloan. Active casket bearers were Phil Wood, Walter Baumgartner, Meron Axtell, Floyd Bush, C. C. Dunsmoor, Joe Gill, Gus Graf. Burial was in Strawberry Point cemetery.
