VOLGA: Mrs. Mary Taylor, 89, pioneer citizen of Volga, died Sunday morning, April 02, at 9:30 o'clock after a brief illness. Funeral services were held in the Volga Presbyterian church Tuesday, April 04, in charge of Rev. Russell Nelson. Piano music was furnished by Mrs. Clarence Kohls. Burial was made in the Hillcrest cemetery. Casketbearers were A. B. Parker, Walter Roys, H. O. Probert, Albert Duff, Louis Preuss and Howard Borden.
Mary Ingraham Taylor was born in Volga City, Nov. 20, 1854, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gardner Ingraham. She was one of a family of three children, the other two having preceded her in death. Her entire life was spent in this locality, attending school and church.
Nov. 08, 1875, she was married to Howard D. Taylor at Elkader. Mr. Taylor was a miller by trade. They established their home in Volga, where their four children were born. Her husband and one son preceded her in death, Mr. Taylor March 28, 1919, and Luther, Dec. 24, 1942. The other members of the family who remain are Oric H. Taylor of Seattle, Wash., Mrs. Henry Dohrer and Eva B. Taylor of Volga, and Howard Taylor, a foster son. She also leaves four grandchildren: Mrs. W. J. Cain of Chicago; Mrs. Carl Lechner of Ames; Glen Dohrer of Davenport; Staff Sgt. Gordon Dohrer of Fort Benning, Ga., and one great-granddaughter, Carla Beth Lechner.
Mrs. Taylor was familiarly known in this community as "Aunty Taylor."
