Mrs. Elsa Mae Blake, the second daughter of Elmer and Caroline Waltenbaugh, was born at Elma, Iowa, on Feb. 22, 1886, and died at her home in Volga, on Feb. 14, 1944, at the age of 57 years, 11 monnths, and 23 days.
She was married on Jan. 11, 1906, to Verner F. Blake and has lived in Volga ever since. To this marriage were born two sons: Russell E. of Cedar Falls and Merton J. in the armed forces. She also leaves her father, J. E. Waltenbaugh of Eugene, Ore., and six sisters; Nellie Darr of Springfield, Ore., Elma Carter of North Bend, Ore., Leona Monahan of Chicago, Ill., Ruby Hunt of Des Moines, Le_la King of Eugene, Ore., and Av_ce Roth of Mitchell, S. Dak. Her mother and one sister, Nettie Bell, preceded her in death. She has one grandson, William Blake, of Cedar Falls. Other relatives are four aunts in this and other surrounding communities: Mrs. Ann Smock, Volga, Mrs. Minnie Brandenburg, Arlington, Mrs. Sarah Oldfather, Fayette, and Mrs. Delia Seedorf, Arlington.
Mrs. Blake was a member of the Royal Neighbor lodge. She has been a member of the Volga Presbyterian church for many years.
Funeral services were held in the Volga Presbyterian church on Friday, Feb. 18, in charge of the Rev. Russell P. Nelson, pastor. With Mrs. Robert Duff as Pianist, Mrs. Archie Foxx and Mrs. Duff sang a duet, "O Love That Wilt Not Let Me Go."
Casket bearers were Ted Leete, E. S. Clark, W. C. Goodin, T. C. Hurley, F. I. Phillips, and Fred Rinert.
Burial services were held Tuesday at 11 o'clock at Hill Crest cemetery, following the arrival of her son Merton Blake from Panama.
