Elmo Leroy Smith, son of Edward and Linda Chapman Smith, was born at Volga, Iowa, June 22, 1901, and grew to manhood in this vicinity. He attended the local public school. On March 04, 1925, he was married to Erma Crain, who survives, with three children, Kenneth, a Marine at Oceanside, Calif., Geraldine and Donald at home; his mother, Mrs. Linda Smith of Volga; one sister, Mrs. Clarence Tuveng, Oak Park, Ill.; two brothers, Leo Smith, Chicago, and Leland Smith, Webster City; several nieces and nephews, besides a large number of relatives and friends.
His father preceded him in death in December, 1942.
Mr. Smith took suddenly ill at his home Sunday morning a died Wednesday evening, Feb. 02, at the age of 42 years. Funeral services were held Sunday, Feb. 06, at the Presbyterian church, with the Rev. Russell P. Nelson, pastor, in charge. Music was furnished by Mrs. R. P. Nelson, Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Kohls and Albert Kunzman.
Casket bearers were Fred Adams of Ottumwa, George Belden of Fairbank, Ted Leete, Kent Walters, J. H. Whitford and H. L. Rogers, all of Volga.
Interment was in Hill Crest cemetery.
