Funeral services for William Fette, 71, former resident of Elkader, were held at St. John's Lutheran church at Luana, Jan. 27, at 2 p.m. Burial was in the Luana cemetery.
William Frederick Henry Fette, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Fette, was born Dec. 13, 1872, in Polsehle, Nienburg, Hanover, Preussen, Germany. His father was a wood chopper in the Kaiser's forests. While in Germany he took up the trade of wagon building. In 1892 he came to America, settling March 29th of that year in Weseca County, Minn., where he began working as a farm hand.
Mr. Fette was married in 1900 to Helena Behsmann and the young couple farmed for 19 years in Waseca county. They then moved to Steele county, where they settled on a farm near Meridan and lived there until 1934, when they moved to Elkader. In 1941 they moved to Luana.
Mr. Fette was a member of St. John's Lutheran church of Luana and St. John's Brotherhood.
Besides his wife, 11 children survive: Martin, Meridan, Minn.; Albert, St. Olaf; Mrs. Elmer Schrader, Monona; Jonard, Farmersburg; Leonard, Meridan, Minn.; Mrs. John Erk_, Minneapolis; Erwin, St. Olaf; Walter, Postville; Pfc. Roland, with the U.S. forces in the Pacific; Mrs. Eldo Meyer, Elkader; Mrs. Bruno Spoerl, Spechts Ferry, Iowa. Sixteen grandchildren also survive. He was preceded by his parents and two brothers.
Mr. Fette died Monday, Jan. 24, at 2 p.m.
