GARNAVILLO: Funeral services for Victor A. Hyde, 72, who died at his home at Ceres, Jan. 21, were conducted at the home Sunday afternoon by Wiliam Warke of Chicago and L. H. Brandt of Garnavillo. Burial was made in the St. Paula's cemetery south of Ceres.
Mr. Hyde, son of Hannah and James Porter Hyde was born Jan. 25, 1871, on a farm near Colesburg in Mallory township where he spent his early life. April 07, 1892, he was married to Susie E. Wathen, who preceded him in death, Oct. 29, 1911. After living on his farm in Jefferson township for a number of years he underwent a serious operation from which he never recovered. He retired on a small acreage where he died.
Mr. Hyde is survived by his eight children: Arthur M., Strawberry Point; Harry W., Freemont, Ohio; Mrs. Bert Seeman and Mrs. Leslie Patrick, both of Guttenberg; Mrs. James Curry, Cedar Rapids; Dale E., Garber; Theodore G. and Earl F., both of Portland, Oregon; 13 grandchildren, one great-grandchild; two sisters, Mrs. Geo. Engel of Seattle, Wash., Mrs. Eva Walters of Edgewood and two brothers, Martin V. Hyde of Garber and Roy Hyde, address unknown. He was preceded in death by his youngest daughter Marie Elizabeth who died in December, 1931; also one sister, Mrs. Iva Hunt of Seattle, Wash., and two brothers, Thomas Hyde also of Seattle and James Hyde of Manchester.
Mr. Hyde served four successive terms on the grand jury and was a director of the Federal Land bank and held other prominent positions in the community.
