At the Emmanuel Lutheran church in Elkport on Saturday, June 01, the Rev. Clare Biegler united in marriage Verna Gladys Handke, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Handke of Elkport, and Lloyd Charles Johanningmeier, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Johanningmeier Sr. of Garber. The bride's sister, Shirley Handke of Elkport, was maid of honor, and bridesmaid was Mrs. Shirley Nelson of Cedar Rapids, sister of the groom. Susan and Sandra Handke, sisters of the bride were flower girls. Kermit Pensel of Colesburg, cousin of the bride, was the best man, and Richard Nelson of Cedar Rapids, brother-in-law of the groom, was groomsman. Ushers were Gary Johanningmeier of Garber, brother of the groom and Robert Handke, brother of the bride.
The bride is a graduate of the Guttenberg high school and had been employed at the Muter company. The groom is a graduate of the Colesburg high school and has been farming.
The new couple will make their home on a farm near Waukon.
