DeButts - Smith marriage - 1946

Sunday, August 04, Miss L'louise Smith and Mr. Robert D. DeButts were united in marriage at the Peace Evangelical and Reformed church in Elkader. The Rev. Paul Kitterer officiated. Miss Smith is the daughter of Mrs. Charlotte Smith of Elkader and the late Dr. Wayne B. Smith. Mr. DeButts is the son of Mr. and Mrs. A. M. DeButts of Melbourne. Miss Edward Adams of Marshalltown, cousin of the groom, sang "Ave Maria." The bride was given in marriage by her uncles, Dale Smith of Manchester and E. A. Schulte of Elkader. Maid of Honor was Miss Barbara DeButts of Des Moines, sister of the groom, and bridesmaids were Miss Margaret Dittmer of Davenport, Miss Lois Schoefeld of Nashua, Mrs. Sarah Jane Peck of Iowa City, and Miss Eloise Finch of Davenport. William Martin, of Aledo, Ill., a social fraternity brother of the groom, was best man.

The bride is a graduate of the Elkader public school, attended Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill., and received her B.A. degree from the State University of Iowa. Mr. Debutts graduated from the Melbourne high school, Marshalltown junior college and the State University of Iowa. He served two years in the Army Air Corps. He will receive his D.D.S. degree from the State University of Iowa in March. He is affiliated with Phi Delta Theta social fraternity and Delta Sigma Delta dental fraternity.

The new couple will take an extended trip to Canada.
