Miss Frances Hurley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael R. Hurley of Elkader, became the bride of Mr. Edmund O'Brien, son of Mrs. Catherine O'Brien of Whittemore, June 24, in St. Joseph church here, with Monsignor James P. Taken officiating. The bridesmaid was, Miss Catherine O'Brien of Fort Dodge, sister of the groom, while Bernard Hurley, brother of the bride, was best man. The ushers were Bill Roethler of Elkader, cousin of the bride, and Hubert O'Brien, brother of the groom. Ann O'Brien of Angola, niece of the groom, was flower girl, and Michael Barry of Mapleton, nephew of the bride, carried the ring. Bea McNeill of Postville sang "Mystery of Love."
The couple left on a wedding trip to Wisconsin Dells and Chicago, after which they will live at Whittemore.
The bride is a graduate of St. Joseph's high school, Elkader, and has a Bachelor of Science degree from Clarke college, Dubuque. Since her graduation from Clarke in 1934, she has taken summer courses at both the University of Iowa, Iowa City, and Iowa State college, Ames. For the past five years, the bride has been employed as home economics instructor and principal at the Des Moines township high school, Rolfe, Iowa. From 1934 to 1937, she taught home economics and acted as high school principal in the public school at Whittemore, Iowa.
The groom graduated from Presentation academy, Whittemore, and is at present engaged in farming. His farm is located one and one-half miles north of Whittemore, where the couple will live.
