I looked at several sources for you. Elizabeth's husband was John R. McDonald according to the sources I located.

The 1925 Iowa State Census for Osceola, Clarke County, Iowa [Roll 1659, line 6] enumerates:
Elizabeth Mcdonald, age 49, born Iowa, widowed lived with her sons, Azel Ames, age 20 and Oren Ames, age 18; She owned her property. Her parents were listed as Henry Westover and Evelyn [Chaney] Westover.

According to Clarke County, Iowa Marriage Records - Marriage Date: January 13, 1923

Bride: Elizabeth Ames, age 48
Parents: Henry David Westover and Amanda Evelyn Chaney

Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa City Directory listings for John R. McDonald:

Son Maurice lives with John R. in all years. However, in 1914, when John R. is no longer listed, Maurice is living with a Mr. Simmons.

There is a John McDonald that matches, but NO PROOF that he is who you are seeking:
