A good history of newspapers in early Tama County can be found in Chapter X of History of Tama County Iowa, 1883.

Past Times, a supplement of the Marshalltown (Marshall County) Times-Republican, is “Central Iowa's monthly magazine dedicated to celebrating our history.” The Aug 2009 issue has an article on Leander Clark College, formerly known as Western College, which was in Toledo, Tama County, from 1857 to 1919.

Iowa Unsolved Murders has details of 5 historic cases, with references.

The Library of Congress has a project called Chronicling America that has archived images of many old newspapers. Again, none in Tama County, but there are many issues of the Evening times-Republican, from Marshalltown, which has many articles on Tama County.
