Petersen Hardware Store Elk Horn #1

Arthur M. Petersen purchased the hardware business of R. J. Hansen and George H. Petersen of Elk Horn in early 1914, operating it for about a year and and half until his death in September 1915 from appendicitis. (George Petersen was not related to Arthur.)

After Arthur's death his older brother Chris, who was then principal of schools at Elk Horn, resigned his position to operate the business, serving as executor of his brother's estate. In February 1917 Chris Petersen and Tony Aagaar purchased the business. However, in January 1918 Chris died of burns suffered in an explosion while installing a furnace in the basement of an Elk Horn home. I am not sure what happened after that - whether Tony Aagaar bought out Chris Petersen's share, or whether it was sold to someone else.

The above info comes from the obituaries for Arthur and Chris, which have been transcribed on the Audubon Obit Board.
