ARTHUR PETERSEN DEAD.

Death Followed Operation For Appendicitis at Atlantic Last Thursday.

The news of the death of Arthur M. Petersen last Thursday came as a decided shock to the entire community, for but comparatively few knew that he was ill. Monday he was about and attending to his business as usual, but Tuesday he was taken to the Atlantic hospital where he was at once operated upon for appendicitis. His condition was known to be serious, however, and on Thursday he passed away.

Arthur M. Petersen was born at Atlantic, Iowa, June 16, 1887. In his youth he moved with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Chris Petersen, to a farm east of Elk Horn, where he spent his boyhood. About a year and a half ago he purchased the hardware business of R. J. Hansen and Geo. H. Petersen at Elk Horn, of which he made a success and conducted until the time of his death. Mr. Petersen was a young man whom to know at all was to respect and no man in Elk Horn was held in more esteem than he. He was progressive, unselfish and every project for the betterment and advancement of the community had in him a loyal supporter.

Deceased leaves a wife, an aged father, three brothers, Chris, Jr., Carl M. and Janus, and a host of friends to mourn his untimely death.

The funeral service was held at the Danish Lutheran church at Elk Horn Sunday afternoon last, which was very laregely attended, the service being conducted by Rev. C. C. Kloth. Interment was in the Elk Horn cemetery.

The RECORD, with the entire community, extends its heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved relatives in their sorrow.
