United States Tools
The following links are provided to facilitate genealogical research in the United States, not repeating those in the other main sections (Marion, Regional, Iowa). If there is a general genealogical page that you would recommend to be added to this list, please send a note with information about the page to the county coordinator. NOTE: I am in the middle of the process of converting this page from a list to a list of links with a description following the link
-
USGenWeb Project
-
This is the national-level project that is the parent of the IAGenWeb state site. All the other states can be found here as well as other projects.
-
Family Search Wiki on the United States
-
This is the Wiki page at FamilySearch.org that focuses on the United States.
-
The Library of Congress
-
This site has a wealth of information and is worth visiting in Washington DC if you ever have a chance. If you type genealogy into its search bar, a wealth of information comes up. But you could also type more narrow searches. Typing in simply "Pella" brought up many audio recordings, photos and more
-
National
Archives and Records Administration (NARA)
-
This is another excellent site and another worthwhile place to visit in DC if you have an opportunity. This is genealogy page is more explicitly geared for family history but the general NARA site has more general archives for all aspects of our government.
-
Civil War Soldiers and Sailors System
-
This is a page on the National Park Service site that has a database for military personnel involved in the Civil War. The databases may overlap those at the National Archives (NARA)
-
Online Searchable Death Indexes and Records
-
This site has a link for each state and for some large cities. It suggests that it is a A Genealogy Guide for Finding Obituaries, Cemetery Burials & Death Certificates. I am not sure how often this site is updated, but I know that the FamilySearch wiki is updated regularly. See the second link above. I would start there first and use this for what is missing there.

Welcome to The USGenWeb Kidz!
-
This is a page connected to the USGenWeb site that is intended to excite kids about family history.
