Hampshire Township
The following history is from the Clinton Herald, July 4, 1976:
This township was set up in 1857, and its land had been discounted by many of the county's earliest pioneers as lacking in value. However, many German and Irish immigrants stayed in the area and proved it valuable and productive; by 1875, most of the land was settled.
The township did not see any villages because of it's closeness to Clinton and Lyons.
Spring Valley Township
Set up in 1882, this was the last township formed in the county, encompassing what was left of the Lyons Township outside the corporate limits of the city.
Lincoln Township
In 1870, Lincoln Township was carved out of Clinton; and prior to that was in Lyons Township.
"Its early history has been largely covered by that of other townships of which at one time it was a part. It was doubtless named after the lamented president who had been assinated only six years before it was organized," a county history said.
