Happy New Year!

On December 31st at four o'clock in the morning, Mr. David Mitchel and Miss Emma Speed started for Elkader, and while going down the hill near P. Dittmer's they overturned their cutter and were spilled out. They soon righted their sleigh and continued their journey to Elkader where they were married by Squire Skinner, and they returned home the same day. ~Strawberry Point Press, Jan. 7, 1880

On New Years eve a watch party was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Kalen which was beautifully decorated for the occasion with holly and green as well as emblems of the New Year. Cards were indulged in until eleven o'clock, Mrs. Frank Morgan and Frank Stewart being prize winners. Lunch was then served after which the time for the passing of the old year was spent in music. ~McGregor News, Jan. 8, 1908

Mr. and Mrs. Grant White spent New Years Eve at the Bert Tucker home in Guttenberg. ~Guttenberg Press, Jan 5, 1939

Important Search Notes:
* Some of the census files are NOT searched with this search engine. Please check the census index.
* Be creative when entering a surname and don't rely entirely on the search engine. Many of the records on this website should be browsed
.
* Enter names between "quotes" and try both "John Doe" and "Doe John". The search engine looks for exactly what you put in the box (minus the quotation marks) so you'll need to try different combinations & spellings to find all the records for your ancestor. Many men used their initials ie: "J.D. Doe"; women were often identified without a first name ie: "Mrs. John Doe", and abbreviations or nicknames are common ie: "Jno Doe" or "Minnie Doe". Be creative!!
